July 2010 RSVP Volunteer Opportunities
FOOD BANK of the SOUTHERN TIER
Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)
This mobile program provides free meals for children throughout the
summer. Volunteers are needed to assist with general duties associated
with serving meals. Set up, greeters, servers and clean up at various
parks in Elmira. As always training is provided. Call RSVP for more
details, 734-4161.
SAMARITAN CENTER
The Samaritan Center is looking for volunteer pantry workers, intake
interviewers and drivers to pick up food and deliver it to the center.
CHEMUNG COUNTY PUBLIC ADVOCATE
If you enjoy answering phones and doing some basic filing this is the
place for you.
This Chemung County Agency will help keep you busy!
THE BARTON HOME
The Barton Home is looking for volunteers to assist residents with a
cooking class, and for friendly visitors. If you have some time The
Barton Home is a great place to spend it.
ELMIRA LITTLE THEATRE
A host of volunteer opportunities await you with the folks at the Elmira
Little Theatre. Clerical, set construction, costumes, promotions, fundraising
and artistic design. Get involved, give your time and have some fun
too!
SOUTHERN TIER BICYCLE LEAGUE
Volunteers are needed to pick up and perform basic repairs on donated
bicycles. Repaired bikes are then distributed locally. Summer is the
time to get out and ride, help someone do that today.
ELDRIDGE PARK CAROUSEL PRESERVATION SOCIETY
If you are looking for some fun outdoor volunteer activities consider
Eldridge Park. Volunteers are needed to operate the putt putt station
handing out putters, golf balls and scorecards. Open from Memorial Day
through Labor Day. Come out and enjoy the park!
RSVP BONE BUILDERS
Help yourself and others by becoming a BONE BUILDER group leader. This
approved osteoporosis prevention exercise program meets at various sites
throughout the county approximately two hours per week. Improve your
physical health, meet new people and help others . Training and weights
are provided.
CORNING MUSEUM of GLASS
Become a docent at the Corning Museum of Glass. Volunteer guides enjoy
free museum membership, discounts and the opportunity to meet many interesting
people. Hours are flexible and training is provided. What a wonderful
place to spend some time this summer
RSVP RIDE PROGRAM
This transportation service program is in need of volunteer drivers.
Volunteers provide individuals with rides to the doctor, dental, medical
and other health related destinations. Consider taking those who no
longer drive to their routine medical appointments.
