RSVP RIDE Program
RIDE is a transportation program serving eligible Chemung County senior
citizens. RSVP’s RIDE Program began with a grant from the New
York State Office for the Aging to address a need within the county
to provide services to those who are not eligible for, or cannot afford,
other forms of transport. Homebound seniors receive rides to medical
and dental appointments, to facilities for therapy and diagnostic testing
and to other health related destinations.
The goal of the RSVP RIDE Program is to provide reliable transportation
through community effort and support.
Client Eligibility
- Chemung County residents at least 55 years of age in need of transportation
to necessary medical and dental appointments
- Anyone not provided transportation through the Medicaid program
- Not in a wheelchair
- Not on oxygen
- Must enter and exit the vehicle unassisted
- Must be able to self-navigate once at the desired location
How is Transportation Provided?
Drivers are RSVP volunteers who use their own cars in providing door-through-door
transportation. They may request a modest mileage reimbursement from
RSVP.
Clients needing rides are screened for eligibility. Once eligible,
they must provide at least 48 hours advance notice so that a driver
can be secured. All arrangements for rides are facilitated by the RSVP
office.
For more information on becoming a volunteer driver, or if you need
this service, call RSVP of Chemung County at (607) 734 4161.
